The premiere of Box Body (2023) as part of Singapore Art Week 2023.
Premiering at the ART-ACT Festival co-curated by Aura Murillo and Ina Conradi during Singapore Art Week 2023, Box Body (2023) was a site-specific anamorphic video installation that transformed the Ten Square LED billboard into a transparent volumetric container. Bypassing CGI animation, the installation utilized skewed live-action footage to create an optical anamorphic illusion, presenting a massive, crouched figure physically confined within the building’s facade. Serving to visually disrupt the regular commercial flow of the Selegie Art District, the artwork confronted passersby with a visceral metaphor for the pervasive sense of constriction that characterizes contemporary metropolitan life.
About ART-ACT Festival: “The festival featured 7 curated art pieces that were screened in two large LED billboard formats around the city of Singapore, one Ten Square, Landmark of Good at the Selegie Art District, and Media Art Nexus at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore.The pieces harness the power of art activism to engage the audience in a journey of critical thinking while creating an aesthetic experience of contemplation. They vary in style and medium of production by mixing performance art, illustration, 3D animation, photography, and videography. Together with the pieces, the artists presented a collection of art manifestos to reinforce their call to action.” (ART-ACT Festival Program Notes, 2023).
